How do I link an external bank account?

Chime uses Plaid, a safe, third-party service that enables account linking with many external bank accounts. Plaid supports thousands of banks across the USA.

Through the Chime app:

  1. Select the Move tab.

  2. Tap the Transfer money button to go to the Transfer screen.

  3. Select your account from the dropdown under From.

  4. Tap Add another account.

  5. Tap Bank Account.

  6. Tap Continue and follow the instructions.

Through Chime.com, go to Settings > Linked accounts, or follow these steps:

  1. Click Move Money.

  2. Select Link a New Account.

  3. Click Continue on the Plaid screen and follow the instructions.

  4. Search for the bank and select the bank to link to.

  5. When prompted, enter the login credentials for your external account.

Once your external account is linked, you can use the Chime app to make transfers between your Chime account and your external account.

You may not be able to link your Chime account to an external bank account if:

  • The external account is not supported by Plaid, the service Chime uses to link accounts. You can check if your external bank is supported by Plaid in the Chime app. 

  • The name and address associated with the other account doesn’t match the name and address on your Chime account.
