Deposit a check in the Chime app

Mobile check deposit lets eligible members deposit checks directly in the Chime app.

Eligibility and access

Mobile check deposit availability is determined by multiple factors, including account history and activity. While activating your physical Chime card and receiving direct deposits may help, access is not guaranteed.

If you don’t see mobile check deposit in your app, you can try these steps:

Completing these steps may help you become eligible, but availability isn’t guaranteed.

For Treasury checks, you must first receive a qualifying direct deposit of at least $1 from one of the following sources:

  • Employer, payroll provider, or government benefit (excluding tax refunds), paid via ACH transfer

  • Gig economy payer, paid via ACH or Original Credit Transaction (OCT)

    • Note: As of September 30, 2025, the U.S. government will stop issuing paper Treasury checks for benefits such as Social Security, VA benefits, child support, and unemployment. You will need to set up direct deposit to continue receiving your benefits.

Deposit a check

To deposit a check:

  1. Tap Move > Deposit check.

  2. Select the type of check you want to deposit.

  3. Enter check amount > tap Next.

  4. Follow the prompts in the app.

Tips for taking photos of your check

  • Place the check on a flat, dark surface with nothing else in the frame.

  • Use good lighting, and make sure all four corners are visible and in focus.

  • Smooth out wrinkles or creases; textured or patterned checks may not scan correctly.

  • Endorse the check in ink and, if prompted in the app, include any special wording such as “For mobile deposit to Chime account only.”

  • The check must be made out to you; we can’t accept checks you write to yourself.

Processing time

When you deposit a check, you’ll see the expected posting date before you submit. Funds will be available no later than five (5) business days. This processing time helps ensure the check clears and supports secure, reliable deposits. If your deposit needs additional review or can’t be accepted, we’ll let you know. For more information about mobile check deposit funds availability, see the Mobile Check Deposit section of the Deposit Account Agreement

Once you deposit a check, you can track the status in the Chime app.

To view your check deposit status:

  1. Tap View Transactions under Checking account.

    • If you have a Chime Card account, tap your Available account balance.

  2. Look for Pending deposits.

  3. Under Check Deposit, you’ll see the expected posting date for your check.

Mobile check deposit limits

We set your Mobile Check Deposit limits automatically based on different risk-based factors like your account history, how long you’ve had your account, and your account activity.

To find your current check deposit limit:

  1. Tap Profile > Account details.

  2. Tap View limits.

  3. Find your limit under Mobile check deposits.

Note: Chime Support can’t manually increase your limits. Setting up direct deposits is one way to increase your limits; otherwise, they are automatically updated over time.

*Mobile Check Deposit Eligibility is determined by Chime in its sole discretion and may be granted based on various factors including, but not limited to, your direct deposit enrollment status.
