How do I transfer money from another bank to my Chime Checking Account?

Chime accounts can be linked with external bank accounts through the services provided by Plaid.

You can link your external account to your Chime account as long as the external bank is supported by Plaid and the name associated with the other account matches your name on your Chime account.

Chime app Chime.com

You can link your external account in the Chime app by going to the Move page:

    1. Select the Move tab.
    2. Tap the Transfer money button to go to the Transfer screen.
    3. Select your account from the dropdown under From.
    4. Tap Link a New Account.
    5. Tap Bank Account.
    6. Tap Continue and follow the instructions.

Once your external account is successfully linked:

    1. Click Move Money.
    2. Select your account from the dropdown under From.
    3. Enter the amount to transfer
    4. Click Transfer.

Your external account will be instantly linked to your Checking Account. The balance is updated when a transfer is initiated, and when the external account is first linked. If the balance is incorrect, you can update it by unlinking and relinking your external account account.

Once your external account is linked, you can use the Chime mobile app to make transfers from the external account to your Checking Account.

Your transferred funds will be available within five business days. You can track your transfer status anytime in the Chime app under Checking transactions.

Frequently asked questions

What is my transfer limit?
You can check your specific transfer limit in your account profile. Your transfer limit is based on your Checking Account history. Limits may vary per member.

To check your limit:

    1. Go to Profile.
    2. Select Account info.

How do I initiate a money transfer from my external account?

Many banks allow you to make transfers to Chime from their website. If you have an external bank that offers this service:

  1. Log in to the other bank's website.
  2. Add your Chime Checking Account using the routing and account numbers that you use for direct deposit. To find your routing and account numbers on the Chime app, use How do I find my Chime account number and routing number? – Help.

Why is my transfer taking so long?

Transfers between accounts are completed through ACH, which are only processed on business days (Monday through Friday, excluding any Federal holidays). After a transfer is processed, Chime's bank partners ask that we hold the transfer for at least three (3) business days. Consequently, it takes a little less than a week to post the money to your Checking Account.

Is there a faster way to transfer funds to my Chime account?
You can instantly transfer money to your Chime account using an external debit card. The transfer process typically takes a few minutes to complete. There may be times when instant transfers are delayed due to network timing or other factors beyond our control.
