How does direct deposit work?

Direct deposit is an electronic transfer sent directly from a payer — your employer, a gig platform, or a government agency — to your checking account. It travels through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network or via OCT Original Credit Transaction (OCT), depending on your payer.

What you get with Direct Deposit

Get Paid Early. When you receive a qualifying direct deposit, Chime makes money available as soon as it receives the payment file from your payer — which can be up to two days before your scheduled pay date. Early access to direct deposit money depends on the timing of the submission of the payment file from the payer. We generally make money available on the day the payment file is received, which may be up to two days earlier than the scheduled payment date.

Chime Plus. When you receive a single qualifying direct deposit of $200 or more, or $400 or more in cumulative qualifying direct deposits within the last 34 days, you're automatically upgraded to Chime Plus. Chime Plus includes a higher savings APY, priority support, and more. For more information on eligibility, view What is Chime Plus? in our Help Center.

Chime Prime. When you receive $3,000 or more in total qualifying direct deposits within the last 34 days, you're automatically upgraded to Chime Prime. Chime Prime includes the best savings APY, priority support, exclusive travel perks, and more. For more information on eligibility, view What is Chime Prime? In our Help Center.

There's no limit on how much you can receive through direct deposit, though large deposits may be subject to review.

For the full definition of qualifying deposits, see Get paid early and qualifying direct deposits.

Name match: The name on your Chime account must match the name your payer has on file. If they don't match, your deposit could be delayed or returned.
