How do I enroll in Investing?

To unlock Investing in the Chime app, you must have Chime Prime status* and meet other eligibility requirements. Eligibility criteria may expand to include additional members in the future. Learn more at How do I become eligible for Investing?

Once eligible, enroll in Automated Investing:
  1. Tap Investing under Financial Tools.
  2. Tap Get Started.
    • You’ll answer a few short onboarding questions about your goals and comfort with risk.
  3. Choose your portfolio
    • You’ll be matched with one of the pre-defined investment portfolios (conservative, balanced, or aggressive). You can choose the recommended portfolio or select a different option.
    • Each plan offers a different level of risk and asset allocation.
    • Atomic Invest LLC, an SEC-registered investment adviser, automatically manages your investments according to the portfolio you select.
  4. Review and accept Atomic Invest LLC’s agreements and disclosures
  5. Complete identity verification 
    • When opening an Investing account, you must pass an identity verification check, known as  KYC – “Know Your Customer”. This is required by law to keep accounts secure and compliant with financial regulations.
    • You’ll be asked to confirm personal information, such as your name, date of birth, address, and SSN.
    • You’ll also answer a set of questions about employment and affiliations.
Once enrolled, you can fund your Investing account with as little as $1 from your Chime Checking account or Chime Card account.

Note: Investing accounts are set up as individual accounts only. Joint accounts, trusts, or retirement accounts (IRAs) are not supported.

Why am I seeing “Creating your account” or “Tired of waiting?”

After you complete enrollment, your account may take time to finish setting up. If you see “Tired of waiting? We’ll email you when it’s ready:” 
  • No action is needed.
  • Once your account is open, you’ll receive an email from Atomic Brokerage with your account agreements and disclosures.
  • When your account is ready, return to the Chime app home screen and tap the Investing tile under Financial Tools. If your account is open, you’ll see “Add money” under your balance. Tap to start investing.

What happens if there’s an issue with identity verification? 

If additional information is needed to complete enrollment, you may see the next steps in the app. You may be asked to: 
  • Review and confirm your personal information, and/or
  • Provide additional documentation to verify your identity

When reviewing your information, make sure it matches your official records. If your Chime account uses a nickname or shortened name, you may need to update it to your full legal name to complete verification. 
  • Note: If you’ve completed all the requested steps and enrollment is unsuccessful, investing won’t be available for you at this time. Chime support agents cannot override identity verification decisions. 

What happens once you fund your account?

  • Your deposit appears in your investing balance right away.
  • If you submit your deposit during market hours and before 3PM ET, it’s typically invested the same day. Deposits made after 3 PM ET, on weekends, or on market holidays are generally invested on the next business day the market is open.
  • You can track the status at any time in the app under Investing > Recent Activity.
