How do I become eligible for Investing?

Note: Automated Investing is being introduced gradually and is currently available to a limited group of eligible Chime members. If you don’t see Investing in your Chime app yet, it will be available to more eligible members soon. Eligibility criteria may expand to include additional members in the future.

To unlock Automated Investing in the Chime app, you’ll need to:

  1. Have Chime Prime status*. Learn more at

  2. Have an active Chime Checking or Chime Card Account.

    • Your Investing account links directly to your Chime Checking or Chime Card account for deposits and withdrawals, so you’ll need to maintain an active Checking or Chime Card account to use it.

  3. Verify your identity and understand how your information is used

When opening an Investing account, you must pass an identity verification check known as KYC – “Know Your Customer”. This is required by law to keep accounts secure and compliant with financial regulations.

You may need to provide at least some of the following information to open and maintain your Investing account:

  • Social Security Number (SSN)

  • Date of birth

  • Residential address

  • Employment information

  • Whether you have certain affiliations, such as being a public official, having significant ownership or control in a publicly traded company, or being affiliated with the securities industry.

Regulations require identity verification before opening an Investing account. This process helps prevent fraud and financial crime and satisfy Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements. Without completing it, an Investing account can’t be opened.

How is this information used?

  • What Chime keeps: Chime stores personal information (like your name, date of birth, SSN, and address) to maintain your Investing account, verify ownership, prevent fraud, and ensure accounts are opened by their rightful owners.

  • What Chime shares with Atomic: Chime securely shares only the information required for Atomic Invest LLC, the registered investment adviser, and its brokerage partners to:

    • Complete identity verification and satisfy Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements

    • Open and maintain the Investing account

    • Deliver required account disclosures and regulatory communications

Chime does not share personal data beyond what is required to provide the service, and your data is not sold to third parties.

If you lose your Chime Prime status*

If you stop receiving a qualifying direct deposit of $200 or more in the last 34 days, your Investing account won’t be affected.

  • You’ll keep your Investing account, and your existing investments will stay in place.

  • You can continue making deposits to and withdrawing from your Investing account.

  • If you later regain Chime Prime status*, your other benefits will resume as usual.

*To be eligible for Chime Prime status, receive $3,000+ in qualifying direct deposits to your Chime Checking Account in the past 34 days. To be eligible for Chime Plus status, receive either 1) a single $200+ qualifying direct deposit; or 2) $400+ in cumulative qualifying direct deposits to your Chime Checking Account in the preceding 34 days. Certain products marketed as perks have additional eligibility requirements. While some perks may have associated fees, none of these fees are mandatory to access the perks or to maintain the applicable status. See the Chime Membership Tiers Terms and Conditions for details.
