Set up direct deposit for government benefits

You can deposit qualifying government benefits into your Chime Checking Account using your Chime routing number and account number.

To find your routing number and account number, visit our How do I set up direct deposit for employers and payroll providers?

Important: The recipient's name on any direct deposits we receive must match the name of the Chime account holder. Any direct deposits received in a name other than the name registered to the Checking Account will be returned to the sender. If names don't match, update your name with your benefits provider or contact Chime member support at (844) 244-6363 to update your account name.

Unemployment benefits

Unemployment benefits are managed by each state, so setup steps may vary depending on your state’s unemployment agency.

To update your payment method:

  1. Sign in to your state unemployment portal.

  2. Look for Direct DepositPayment Settings, or Payment Method.

  3. Enter your Chime routing number and account number.

  4. Select Checking as the account type.

Some states automatically issue benefits on a prepaid debit card. You may need to opt out of the debit card and choose direct deposit instead.

Some government benefits providers aren’t available through automated direct deposit setup in the Chime app. If you can’t find your provider, update your direct deposit information directly through your benefits provider instead.
