Why was my direct deposit returned?

Chime’s systems automatically review incoming direct deposits. In some cases, our review system may return your direct deposit to the payer for any of the following reasons:

  • Business deposits: Chime Checking Accounts are for personal use only. If the deposit comes to a business name or includes a Small Business Administration (SBA) loan, it may be returned.

  • Closed Chime account: If your Checking Account is closed, we return the deposit.

  • Name mismatch: If the name on your direct deposit doesn’t match the name associated with your Chime Checking Account, we return the deposit.

  • Reversed by payer: The deposit may have been returned by the issuing bank or at the request of your employer or benefits provider.

Returned deposits are typically sent back to the payer within three business days. To resolve the issue, contact your employer or payer to confirm the deposit details and discuss alternative payment options.
