Why was my check rejected?

Chime may reject a check if it doesn’t meet our risk or eligibility requirements. Check the Chime app for the specific error and next steps.

Chime accepts the following types of checks for mobile deposit:

  • Checks payable to the member in U.S. dollars

  • U.S. Treasury checks (up to the same amount as the member's standard mobile check deposit limit)

  • Personal checks

  • State and Local Government checks

  • Cashier's checks

  • Certified checks

  • Federal Reserve Bank checks

  • Federal Home Loan Bank checks

  • Joint checks

    • You must be listed as a payee and endorse the check.

The following check types are not accepted for mobile deposit:

  • Checks written to someone other than the Chime account holder (third-party checks)

  • Expired checks or checks dated more than 6 months ago 

  • Checks that are ripped or missing information

  • Checks from outside the U.S.

  • Checks dated in the future (these can be resubmitted on or after the date on the check)

  • Money orders

  • Checks you write to yourself (for example, you cannot write a check from your own account at another bank and deposit it into your Chime account)

  • Checks with alterations, illegible items, or signs of fraud

  • Checks previously deposited at another institution

  • Checks from financial institutions outside the U.S.

  • Digital reproductions of checks

  • Remotely created checks 


Note: Even if your check meets all these requirements, acceptance is not guaranteed, and all deposits are subject to review.

Can I resubmit my check?

If you are eligible to resubmit your check, you will see a message in the app and receive a push notification. 

To deposit a check:

  1. Tap MoveDeposit check.

  2. Select the type of check you want to deposit.

  3. Enter check amount > tap Next.

  4. Follow the prompts in the app.

If your check was rejected for any other reason, or it’s a type of check we don’t accept, you won’t be able to resubmit it to Chime. Contact the check issuer for other options.
