Use Rent Reporting with Boom

Legacy product: Credit Builder is a legacy Chime product. No new accounts are being opened.

How Rent Reporting works

Boom is a service that turns on-time rent payments into a credit-building tool. Through Chime's partnership with Boom, eligible members can sign up to have their rent reported to all three credit bureaus. Boom handles the reporting and there is no extra charge for Chime members.

To use Rent Reporting, you need a formal lease agreement that includes your name. The agreement must clearly show your name as the tenant, the monthly rent amount, lease start and end dates, rental address, and landlord information. A lease, sublease, written roommate agreement, or other legal rental document all qualify — as long as it meets those requirements and is for a U.S. address. Your monthly rent must be at least $100.

Sign up for Rent Reporting

  1. Tap Profile > Rent Report.

  2. Verify your identity.

  3. Add your rent details and connect the account you use to pay rent.

  4. Boom verifies your data — most members are verified in under 24 hours. Once verified, Boom starts reporting your payments to all three bureaus.

If there is an issue during verification, you will get an in-app notification. Common issues include lease verification, identity, landlord, bank account, or document problems. For help, tap the Help button on the Rent Reporting page in the app to chat with Boom.

Boom accepts rent payments made through your Chime account via ACH, direct deposit, debit card, Credit Builder card, Chime Card, check, or Pay Anyone. Payments made outside of Chime are not detected automatically — if that happens, contact Boom with proof of payment to request an exception.

On your credit: Consistent on-time rent payments may help build your credit profile over time. Late or missed payments may hurt your score. Results vary based on your full credit profile.

Manage or end your enrollment

You can stop rent reporting at any time. To unenroll through the Chime app, tap Profile End Reporting — or update your lease and choose to end it. You can also reach out to Boom directly using the contact info below. Once your request is processed, Boom stops reporting and closes your tradeline.

As your lease expiration date approaches, Chime will remind you to update your lease details. You can confirm whether you have moved to a month-to-month lease or are ending your lease. Once ended in the app, reporting stops.

Dispute a rent reporting item

If you need to dispute a rent reporting item on your credit report, contact Boom directly — they handle all rent reporting disputes with the credit bureaus. Do not use the general Boom contact for enrollment questions; use the in-app Help chat on the Rent Reporting page for those instead.

  • Chat: Tap Help on the Rent Reporting page in the Chime app, or visit boompay.app/renters

  • Email: hello@boompay.app

  • Phone (credit reporting issues only, by appointment): Call 415-940-7235 and leave your name, email, and a brief description. Boom will follow up to schedule a call.

Chime partners with Boom to report rent payments made with your Chime account. Late payment may negatively impact your credit scores. Impact on your credit may vary, as credit scores are independently determined by credit bureaus based on a number of factors including the financial decisions you make with other financial services organizations.
