How can I close my Chime account?

If you want to close your account. you can close it in the Chime app if you’re using an Apple device. If you have a negative balance on the account, or need help closing it, contact Chime Member Services at 1-844-244-6363, or email support@chime.com.

If there are funds in your account, you can also move your balance to a linked account via ACH transfer, or we will return those funds to you via check at the mailing address we have for you in our records. Please make sure your mailing address is accurate in the Chime app to avoid any potential delays in receiving your check.

Please keep in mind that once your account is closed, you will no longer be able to access it. While your account is still open, you can locate and download your account statements and tax forms under Documents in the Settings section of the Chime app or website. After your account is closed, all future tax documents will be mailed to you. Please refer to this article for more information.

Can I close my account in the Chime app?

If you have the Chime app version 5.109 or later on your Apple device, you can close your Chime account using the Chime app:

    1. On the home screen, tap the gear icon to launch Settings.
    2. In Personal Info, tap the Edit link.
    3. Select Close account.
    4. Read the Close my account message. If you want to proceed with closing your account, you’ll need to verify your identity to do so.
      • To verify your identity and confirm your intention to close your account, enter the last 4 digits of your Social Security number in the text field.
      • If you want to upload an image, you can add one here.
    5. Tap the Submit request button when you’re ready to close your account.
    6. You’ll see the Your request has been submitted message, confirming that we’re working on your closure request. Tap the Got it button to complete the process.

If you’re using an Android device, you’ll need to contact support through your Chime app to close your account.

What if there's money in my account when I close it?

If there are funds in your account when you wish to close it, you may transfer your balance to a linked account through an outbound ACH transfer by using the “Transfer Funds” feature under Move Money in the Chime app or online. Please complete these steps before you close your account.

    1. Open your Chime app or log into your account online.
    2. Select Move Money, then Transfer funds. From here you can choose which accounts you’d like to transfer funds between, or link a new account.
      • If you have a Chime Savings account, according to the terms of your Deposit Account Agreement, this account will also be closed.
        • To transfer Savings funds, you’ll need to transfer your Savings balance into your Checking account before you initiate the ACH transfer.
      • If you have a Chime Credit Builder Secured Visa® Credit Card, this account will also be closed, according to the terms of your Account Agreement.
        • To transfer funds from your Chime Credit Builder Secured Visa® Credit Card, you’ll need to transfer your Credit Builder balance into your Checking account before you initiate the ACH transfer.
    3. We may disable your ability to use any active Chime cards during this process.

To avoid any delay in receiving your funds, please ensure that this transfer is complete before you close your Chime account. After you initiate a transfer, it may take up to 3-5 business days for the funds to show up in your linked account.

If I don't transfer funds, how can I receive my remaining balance? 

If there's a balance on your Chime account and you don't wish to transfer those funds to a linked account, we will return your funds to you via check at the mailing address we have for you in our records. Please ensure that your mailing address in the Chime app is accurate - and if it's not, please update it.

Your account closure will be complete within 5 business days of the date you requested to close it.
