How much can I overdraft my account with SpotMe?

Your SpotMe base limit starts at $20 and can be increased up to $200* or more based on account history and activity. Any transaction that would overdraw your account over your limit will be declined.

To get access to SpotMe, you need to have received a single direct deposit of at least $200 on or after July 27, 2021. To keep using SpotMe after that, you need cumulative direct deposits of at least $200 every month. These deposits can come from an employer or payroll provider, gig economy payer, or government benefits payer (including Child Tax Credit payments), and must be deposited into your Spending Account as an automated clearing house (ACH) transfer or Original Credit Transaction (OCT).

If you received a qualifying direct deposit before July 27, 2021, you won’t be eligible for SpotMe until your next qualifying deposit arrives in your Spending Account. At that time, you’ll be able to use SpotMe.

The best way to increase your SpotMe limit is by receiving regular direct deposits into your Chime Spending Account and by using your Chime debit card regularly, however, these things don't guarantee a higher limit. Chime ultimately decides your limit at its discretion based on the following factors: 

  • How long you’ve been a Chime member
  • How often you receive direct deposits
  • The amounts of your regular direct deposits
  • How often you use your Chime debit card
  • Other risk-related factors

SpotMe only covers debit card purchases and cash withdrawals. It does not cover Pay Friends transfers, ACH transfers (including direct debits), or Chime Checkbook transactions.

Please note that Chime Member Services cannot manually increase your SpotMe limit.

*Chime SpotMe is an optional, no-fee service. All qualifying members will be allowed to overdraw their account up to $20 on debit card purchases initially, but may be later eligible for a higher limit of up to $200 or more based on member’s Chime Account history, direct deposit frequency and amount, spending activity and other risk-based factors. Your limit will be displayed to you within the Chime mobile app. You will receive notice of any changes to your limit. Your limit may change at any time, at Chime’s discretion. SpotMe won’t cover non-debit card purchases, including ACH transfers, Pay Friends transfers, or Chime Checkbook transactions. See terms and conditions
