How does SpotMe® work?

SpotMe lets you spend more than what’s in your account, but it’s not money you get to keep. It’s Chime covering the difference for you—temporarily.

We cover the transaction now, and you pay it back automatically when money hits your account (your next direct deposit, transfer, or cash deposit). See What does SpotMe cover?

If you try to spend more than what’s in your account plus your SpotMe limit, the transaction will be declined.

Here’s an example:

  • Let’s say your balance is $5 and your SpotMe limit is $20. That means you can spend up to $25. If you try to spend more than that, the transaction will be declined.
