What are pending transactions?

Pending transactions are those that are still being processed. The pending amount is deducted from your Available to Spend balance, but it hasn't yet been fully transferred from your account to the merchant. The pending transaction may take a few days to settle.

A merchant can still cancel, expire, or change the amount of a pending transaction (e.g., if you added a tip at a restaurant). If a merchant cancels or expires a pending transaction before it settles, the money is returned to your Available to Spend balance within seven business days.

Frequently asked questions

How soon will a pending hotel or rental vehicle charge be released?

Hotel and vehicle rental merchants often place holds on your account for things like damage deposits. It may take up to seven days for hotels and 30 days for car rentals for the merchant to settle the final charges once the transaction is complete.

It’s best to contact the merchant if the hold is taking longer than expected.

Where can I see pending transactions?

In your Chime app,

    1. Tap the account with the transactions you want to view.
      • You'll see a list of your recent transactions.
      • The top of the list will show any pending transactions, or transactions that the merchant hasn’t yet fully processed.
    2.  Tap on a specific transaction to view more details about it.

What is an authorization hold?

Authorization (auth) holds are temporary charges for amounts greater than what you paid for a product or service. For example, gas stations, hotels, and car rental companies may charge them to make sure you have enough money in your account to cover the actual amount of the transaction. Visit What are authorization (auth) holds? to learn more.

Can Chime cancel a pending transaction for me?

Chime Member Services agents can't manually cancel pending transactions on your account. If you're concerned about how long a pending transaction will stay on your account, please contact the merchant.
