Why did my account go more negative than my SpotMe limit?

SpotMe* usually covers you up to your approved limit. But sometimes, a charge is posted to your account after the initial authorization . This happens when the merchant sends the final charge amount later, even if it’s higher than what was first authorized. These are called force posts.

Examples of force posts:

  • Gas station: You might see a $1 hold, but later the full $40 charge is posted to your account. .

  • Restaurant: You pay $25, but after adding a tip, the final total is posted .

  • Subscriptions: A monthly charge (like streaming) may still post even if you’ve already reached your SpotMe limit.

When this happens, your balance can go below your SpotMe limit. Don’t worry, you won’t be charged an overdraft fee. Your next deposit will bring your account back up once SpotMe has been repaid.
