How automatic upgrade works (How to get more out of MyPay)
Your account is automatically upgraded from External Account Depositor to Chime Depositor once you move your direct deposit to Chime. After Chime detects a Qualifying Direct Deposit into your Chime Checking Account, MyPay will begin using that deposit to determine your eligibility. Your income estimation and accrual will switch to Chime-based data, and repayment will be processed through your Chime account. You don’t need to take any additional steps beyond setting up direct deposit.
To complete the upgrade, the following conditions must also be met:
- You must activate your physical Chime Visa® Debit Card or secured Chime Visa® Credit Card.
- You must receive a Qualifying Direct Deposit while your external account is still linked.
Note: If you unlinked your external account, you’ll need to receive two Qualifying Direct Deposits to transition to the Chime Depositor experience.
Role of Qualifying Direct Deposit into Chime
To trigger and maintain the upgraded experience, you must receive two Qualifying Direct Deposits of $200 or more every 36 days and maintain a consistent deposit pattern.
Qualifying deposits typically include:
- Payroll
- Gig economy income
- Government benefits
Once these deposits are detected, you may become eligible for:
- Higher potential credit limits
- Lower instant advance fees. 3% of each advance amount (minimum fee of $2, maximum fee of $5).
Outstanding balance requirement before upgrade
If you have an existing MyPay balance when you begin direct depositing, the balance must still be repaid. Upon upgrade, repayment will transition to your Chime Checking Account, and your external debit card will no longer be used. Once upgraded, repayment will occur when funds arrive in your Chime Checking Account.
What you see during an upgrade
When the upgrade is triggered, you may see an in-app notification such as “You qualify for higher limits and lower fees,” confirming your updated experience.
The MyPay tile will update to reflect your new credit limit range, updated fee structure, and updated repayment method.
How limits and access change after the upgrade
What typically improves: Higher potential credit limit and lower instant advance fees. 3% of each Advance amount (minimum fee of $2, maximum fee of $5)
What may change: Limits are recalculated based on your direct deposit amount, deposit consistency and Chime account activity.
- Important: Limits may increase, decrease, or stay the same. Partial direct deposits into Chime may result in lower limits than expected.
If you’ve set up direct deposit with Chime and meet the MyPay eligibility requirements but haven’t been upgraded yet, contact Chime Member Services at (844) 244-6363 or start a chat in the Chime app from Profile > Help Center > Chat.
