How do I transfer my phone number to Chime Wireless?

You can keep your current phone number by porting it to Chime Wireless. Number porting lets you keep your phone number when you switch carriers, and Chime doesn’t charge a fee for it. Check with your current carrier because they may charge  fee(s) or have restrictions.

To successfully port your number, you’ll need to gather some details from your current carrier. Having accurate information is important because incorrect or mismatched details can cause delays or block your port request.

Required Information

  • The phone number to be ported

  • The current carrier

  • Account holder first and last name

  • Account number from your current carrier

  • Port/Transfer PIN

  • The ZIP code the current carrier has on file (This may not be your current billing or home address. Verify with your provider.)

Steps to port your number

  1. Sign up for Chime Wireless in the Chime app.

  2. During the sign-up process, choose Keep my existing number.

  3. Enter your phone number and tap Continue.

  4. Once your Chime Wireless plan is set up, confirm you’re ready to start transferring your number.

  5. Follow the steps to enter your account details on the next screens.

After you’ve successfully entered your transfer details, we’ll send a request to your current carrier. Your number will stay active during the transfer, and you don’t need to do anything else. You can track the progress of your request in the Chime app; enable push notifications and you’ll receive a notification as soon as it’s ready. Most transfers complete in a few hours, but it can take up to one business day.

Tips & Important Reminders

  • Keep your current service active until your number transfer to Chime Wireless is complete. Cancelling your account with your current carrier too soon could result in losing your existing number.

  • Some carriers have special requirements or restrictions on number transfers. If you’re on a contract, payment plan, shared account, or special plan, confirm with your current carrier that your line is eligible to be ported.

  • Before starting your transfer, ask your carrier to remove any port protection, account locks, or security features that could block the porting process.
