How does the cash back rewards program work for the Secured Chime Credit Card?

Who qualifies for cash back rewards? 

To earn rewards, you must:

  • Have an open and active secured Chime Visa® Credit Card and Secured Deposit Account.

  • Have Chime+1 status at the time you make a purchase.


If you lose Chime+ status after making an eligible purchase, but before that earned cash back is transferred to your Secured Deposit Account, you can still receive your cash back to your Secured Deposit Account so long as your Secured Deposit Account stays open and in good standing. What purchases are eligible? 

Eligible purchases refers to the purchases of goods and services in designated Spend Categories. You’ll earn cash back when you use your Chime Card to make purchases in rotating Spend Categories. These must be settled purchases (not pending), and must meet the eligibility criteria.


Some types of transactions don’t qualify, including:

  • Cash advances

  • Gift card purchases

  • Disputed, unauthorized, or fraudulent transactions

  • Fees or account credits

  • Any purchase made with a Chime Visa Debit Card


How much can I earn and in what categories? 

You’ll earn 1.5%2 cash back on eligible purchases.

There’s no cap or minimum requirement. You can start earning right away as long as your accounts remain open and in good standing. Your cash back is rounded to the nearest cent based on the purchase amount.

Spend Categories change over time. You can check your current categories in the Chime app. These may include:

  • Restaurants: dine-in, takeout, drive-through, or delivery

  • Groceries: supermarkets, bakeries, and specialty food retailers

  • Gas: service stations and automated fuel dispensers

  • Cable/internet: including paid TV services

  • Phone bills: mobile and landline services and related equipment


Spend Categories are based on Visa merchant category codes (MCCs), which are assigned by the merchant’s payment processor. Chime doesn’t control how these codes are assigned and can’t guarantee a purchase will qualify for rewards if the merchant uses the wrong code.


When will I get my rewards? 

You’ll typically receive your cash back within nine (9) calendar days after your eligible purchase settles. If your account is closed before that, any untransferred rewards will be lost.

Cash back rewards don’t expire, but they must be transferred before your account is closed to stay available.


Where can I see my rewards?

You can view your cash back:

  • In the Chime mobile app

  • On your monthly billing statement


Once the cash back is transferred to your Secured Deposit Account, it will show up in your available balance and be ready to use.


Can rewards be adjusted or lost? 

Yes. If you return a purchase or receive a refund, your rewards will be adjusted. If these adjustments bring your balance negative, future rewards will go toward clearing that amount.

You may also lose rewards if your account is closed or suspended before the rewards transfer.


Can I lose rewards if there's fraud or misuse?

Yes. If there's suspected fraud, abuse, or suspicious activity, Chime or the partner bank that issued your card may suspend your rewards, withhold rewards, or even close your account.

Also, keep in mind that rewards don’t have cash value until they’re transferred to your Secured Deposit Account.


Can the program change? 

Yes. Chime or the issuing bank can make changes at any time. These may include:

  • Changing reward categories

  • Adding new restrictions

  • Ending the program altogether
