What's changing about the cash back rewards program?

We're making a change  to the cash back rewards program. These changes apply to all eligible Chime Card holders with Chime Plus or Chime Prime status. For more information on Chime Prime eligibility, refer to What is Chime Prime? in our Help Center. For more information on Chime Plus eligibility, refer to What is Chime Plus? in our Help Center. 
 
Here's what's changing and what you need to do.
 
Monthly category re-selection

Starting July 1, 2026, you will need to re-select your rewards category each calendar month to earn cash back rewards that month. Your category selection will no longer roll over automatically from month to month. That means that on the first of every calendar month, the rewards categories will be reset and you will need to actively choose your category each month to continue earning rewards. You may select your rewards category at any time during the calendar month. Your selection activates immediately, but only for future transactions. Transactions made before your selection won't qualify. For example, if you select your category on the 10th of the month, only transactions after that date qualify for cash back rewards. If you don't select a category for the month, you won’t earn cash back rewards for that month.
 
How to select your cash rewards category:
  1. From the home screen, scroll down to Financial tools.
  2. Tap Rewards.
  3. Tap the category you'd like to earn cash back rewards in.
  4. Tap Select Category to save your category.
 
Reasons you may not have received rewards
 
There could be several reasons you didn't earn rewards on a transaction:
  1. You didn't manually select your rewards category for the calendar month.
  2. The transaction category didn't match your chosen rewards category.
  3. You reached the $1,500 monthly eligible purchases limit.
  4. You used a non-Chime Card (the Credit Builder Card and Chime Debit Card aren't supported at this time).
  5. Your transaction occurred before you selected a cash back rewards category for the month
  6. Your purchase was made at a merchant that is no longer eligible under your selected category.
