Tax refunds from TPG/SBTPG and verification

TPG/SBTPG deposits

Chime typically accepts tax refund deposits from Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, also known as TPG, SBTPG, or STPG.  These are common tax preparation services that deduct filing fees directly from your refund before depositing the remainder.

In some cases, a deposit from Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, may require additional verification before Chime can release the funds. During tax season, you might receive an email from Chime asking you to confirm some information. If you get a verification request, follow the instructions as soon as possible — delays in responding can slow down access to your refund.

Off-season deposits: For security reasons, Chime may block some Santa Barbara Tax Products Group deposits between June and December. If you're expecting a tax refund deposit outside of tax season, contact Chime support if it hasn't arrived.

ID verification for large refunds

If your refund requires identity verification, you should receive an email and a push notification from Chime with instructions. You'll need to provide a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID. Accepted forms include:

  • State-issued driver's license

  • State-issued identification card

  • Federally issued permanent resident card

Make sure your ID is clear, legible, and not expired before submitting it. Submitting a blurry or expired ID will cause delays.
