Check and fix your tax filing status

Check your filing status

Your filing status is always visible on the Chime home screen; tap File your taxes for free to view your current status. You can also tap View my tax details after e-filing to see more information.

Here's what each status means:

Status

What it means

In Progress

You've started your return but haven't submitted it yet.

IRS Due Date

You started but haven't finished, and the deadline is 2 weeks away.

E-Filed

You completed and submitted your return. The IRS is reviewing it.

Accepted

The IRS accepted your return. It's being processed. This does not mean your refund has been deposited yet.

Fix Return

Your return was rejected, but you can fix it. Tap Correct my tax return and follow the steps.

Rejected

Your return was rejected and can't be resubmitted through Chime. Contact the IRS for next steps.

Filing status vs. refund status: Your filing status tells you where your return is in the process. It does not tell you when your refund will arrive. For refund status, use the IRS Where's My Refund? tool at IRS.gov.

Fix a rejected return

Fix Return (Action Needed): This is the most common issue. Your return was rejected but you can resubmit. Tap Correct my tax return in the app and follow the steps. Check the Tax Hub for details on why it was rejected.

Rejected (not retriable): In rare cases, a return can't be resubmitted through Chime. If you see a Rejected status without a fix option, contact the IRS at (800) 829-1040 for next steps.

Get help and handle other issues

Help during filing: If you run into a technical issue or have a question while filing, use the support options inside April's filing page. In the Chime app, tap the question mark icon at the top of the screen, or tap the Contact Support card. April typically responds within 24 hours. There is no direct phone number for April.

After the IRS accepts your return: Accepted means the IRS has received and approved your return — it doesn't mean your refund has been sent yet. The IRS still needs to process it, which can take additional time. Check the Where's My Refund? tool at IRS.gov for your refund date. If it's been a while and you haven't received your refund, also check your mail — the IRS sometimes sends letters asking for more information before releasing funds.

If you made a mistake: Contact the IRS at (800) 829-1040 for help correcting your return. If your refund was sent to a Chime account that doesn't match the filer's name, it will be returned to the IRS automatically.

No access to your Chime account: If you filed through Chime but can no longer access your account, you can request a tax transcript directly from the IRS at IRS.gov (select Get Your Tax Record) or by calling the IRS at (800) 829-1040.
