Once a new Onyx Chime Card is issued, the previous plastic Chime Card will no longer work, whether or not the new card has been activated.
Here’s what likely happened:
- When the new Onyx Chime Card is activated, the previous plastic Chime Card stops working.
- There is a 30-day transition period during which the original plastic Chime Card remains active while the new Onyx card is shipped. Only one card can be active at a time. Once the new card is activated the previous card is automatically deactivated.
- After the transition period ends, the plastic Chime Card is deactivated. Chime can’t turn it back on.
What to do next:
- Activate your Onyx Chime Card in the Chime app by going to the Card section and selecting “Activate card,” by calling the number printed on your card and following the automated activation prompts.
- Once it’s active, you can keep spending and earning rewards with no interruption.
If you don’t have your Onyx Chime Card yet, you can still access your money:
- Use your virtual card in the Chime app for online purchases or by adding it to your mobile wallet for in-store payments.
- Request a replacement card in the app or by contacting Chime Support.
- You can also check your mailing details and track your card delivery in the Chime app, or reach out to Support if you need help.
