The Onyx Chime Card is a secured Chime Visa® Credit Card, or Chime Card, for members with Chime Prime status. It’s part of Chime’s card family and comes at no extra cost when you’re eligible for Chime Prime. Refer to What is Chime Prime? in our Help Center for more information on Chime Prime eligibility.
The Onyx Chime Card works the same way as your plastic Chime Card. You can use it for everyday purchases, withdraw cash, and track and manage your spending in the Chime app or at Chime.com. The benefits, such as 5% cash back and other premium perks, are tied to Chime Prime status, not the physical card. If you previously had a plastic Chime Card, the primary difference is the updated card material.
What makes the Onyx Chime Card different
• It’s only available to members with Chime Prime status
• It’s a premium steel core card associated with Visa Signature® benefits
• It replaces your existing plastic Chime Card once you activate it
How the transition works
- When you become initially eligible for Chime Prime, you may be prompted to choose between the Onyx Chime Card or upgrading to a Titanium Chime Card for a fee. If no selection is made, you will automatically receive the Onyx Chime Card.
- There’s a 30-day “smoothing period”, in which your current card keeps working while you receive and activate your Onyx Chime Card. This transition period gives you time to activate your new card before your old one stops working. If you don’t activate your Onyx Chime Card within 30 days, your old card stops working automatically.
- If you lose Chime Prime status, you may continue using your existing Onyx Chime Card. Members need to have Chime Prime status when their new or replacement card is processed to receive the Onyx Chime Card.
- If you don’t have Chime Prime status when requesting a replacement, you will receive a plastic evergreen Chime Card instead. If you become eligible for Chime Prime again, you can request an Onyx Chime Card or pay for a titanium Chime Card at that time.
- If you already have a Titanium metal Chime Card, you can keep it, you don't need to replace it. See What is Chime Prime?in our Help Center for more information about eligibility requirements.
- If you’re eligible for the Onyx Chime Card but choose not to select it during your upgrade, no worries. If you remain eligible for Chime Prime, we’ll automatically ship your Onyx Card about 90 days after you first become eligible.
