The type of name update you need determines whether you can make the change in the Chime app or if you need to contact us.
Updates you can make in the Chime app
You can update your preferred name in the Chime app, but this doesn’t change the legal name on your account.
To update your preferred name in the Chime app:
- Tap the gear icon to go to Settings.
- Tap Personal info.
- Tap the pencil icon next to your name, enter your preferred name, and tap Continue.
Updates that require contacting Chime
If you need to update your legal name, call us at (844) 244-6363. Be ready to submit photos of your updated valid, government-issued ID showing your new legal name.
The following name updates require contacting us:
- Legal name changes (e.g., after marriage or divorce): We'll update your name and send you a new card.
- Fixing a typo in your legal name: We can correct spelling errors or other mistakes.
- Adding or removing a suffix (e.g., Jr., Sr.): We can update your legal name if needed.
Chime doesn’t allow members to add or modify a middle name on their account.
